PDMS Tutorial

Here is the summary for making pdms chips where everyone can find it.

SUMMARY FOR MICROFLUIDIC PDMS CHIP FABRICATION
1) Mix PDMS ratio 10:1
2) Vacuum Bubbles
3) Pour PDMS onto wafer
4) Remove remaining bubbles (pop)
5) Bake 3+ Hours
6) Cut out & Plasma Clean, 20-sec
7) Seal + Cover Scotch Tape
8) Bake 2+ Hours
9) Insert tubing
10) Coat junctions w\ silicon sealant
11) Bake again, 2+ hours
12) Cover with epoxy, ratio 30:1
13) Cure and Bake (1-hour+)


Silgard 184 is the PDMS Kit commonly used for microfluidics. Use 10 parts A to 1 part B.


You can mix parts A and B in a bowl with chop stick.


Remove bubbles with vacuum chamber for 5-min.


Pour PDMS onto a silicon wafer. Let stand 10-minutes and then pop remaining bubbles with needle.


Bake the PDMS after pouring for 3+ hours.


Let PDMS Cool and then Cut out one patterned piece and one blank piece.


Place in plasma cleaner, pattern side up. Plasma clean 15-20 seconds.


Place plasma-cleaned sides together and let seal. Cover region of interest with scotch tape (so it will be clean when you look under microscope). Place in oven 2+ Hours.


Insert tubing inputs. These consist of 30-gauge steal tubing (needle tubing) and tygone tubing (0.25-mm inner diameter). Next, seal joints with silicon sealant. Bake 2+ hours to cure sealant.


I found this epoxy somewhere in seomyeon. There is better epoxy available, I am sure, but I don't know where to find it. Anyhow, use 30-parts to 1-part (approximate).


Once again, chopstick and plastic dishware are quite useful.


Apply, let cure and bake. Yey. You're done.
